A an unidentified motorcyclist was killed a result of an accident on U.S. Highway 27 in Haines City, Florida. This accident is reported by The Ledger to have occurred when a 2014 Kia Sorrento, driven by 29-year-old Jessica Ann Burns, “drove across the northbound lane to make a turn.” The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation. Prior to the collision, the motorcycle was going northbound on U.S. 27 near Patterson Road.

SUV Driver Mostly To Blame For Accident

A perspective from the northbound direction of U.S. 27 shows that there is not a traffic light at the intersection and the likely destination for the Kia Sorrento was to the east. As the accident occurred in the inside lane going northbound, the Kia Sorrento was making a left hand turn across U.S. 27. Assuming that those facts are correct, Ms. Burns bears most or all of the legal responsibility for this accident in that she improperly made a left hand turn without yielding to oncoming traffic as required by Florida law.
