Car Accident SR60 and Espo Drive in Mulberry

News Events

A two vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of State Road 60 and Espo Drive in Mulberry, Florida. The Ledger reports that one person died as a result of the accident. The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. last night. The accident involved 75-year-old Paul Joseph Barber who attempted to cross highway 60 after stopping at the stop sign. Mr. Barber appears to have driven directly into the path of 20-year-old Jaden Tyson. Mr. Tyson was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Error In Judgment While Crossing The Highway

This particular accident happened along a stretch of SR60 where traffic regularly moves at highway speed. This accident was likely caused by an error in judgment as Mr. Barber entered the highway from a side street or attempts to cross the highway from a side street. Starting from zero to enter or cross a highway can be a daunting proposition. However, when confronted with such a situation, a driver needs to ensure that there is enough time to make the maneuver without causing a danger to other drivers. Left hand turns from the highway and onto a side street also present the same dangers. Under the circumstances as reported, it appears that there would have be no opportunity for Mr. Tyson to avoid the collision. Under Florida law, Mr. Tyson has a personal injury and property damage claim against Mr. Barber’s estate and any owners of the vehicle he was driving.
