U-Turn Truck Accident Frostproof

News Events

A semi-truck was involved in a fatal accident with a pickup truck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and U.S. Highway 98. Jorge Hernandez-Rodriguez was driving a semi-truck and making a U-turn under a green arrow at the time of the collision in Frostproof, Florida. While sideways in the roadway during the turn, Timothy Caruthers’ pickup truck ran underneath the semi-trailer. The accident happened at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The intersection was closed for five hours. Caruthers was headed southbound on U.S. 27 at the time of the accident.

Driver Of Car Did Not Take Evasive Action

The Ledger reports that Caruthers did not appear to have seen the trailer before striking it. Because of that statement in the news report, the immediate thought that comes to mind is that texting and driving was the cause of this semi-truck accident. The semi-truck involved in this Polk County accident appears to have been making a legal U-turn.

The investigating authorities should take a look at the cell phone that was likely in Caruthers’s possession at the time of the crash and see if there is evidence of recent use. In texting and driving cases, there is often an unfinished message that was being typed. Caruthers could have also been distracted by a number of different things inside the vehicle.

Since the death is accidental, an autopsy is also in order by the medical examiner to rule out intoxication, drugs, or a sudden emergency medical condition. The cause of an accident such as this one is oftentimes determined using circumstantial evidence.
